EVENTS

A highlight of the many activities of the Indian Board of Alternative Medicines are its eagerly awaited annual international conferences of which it has thus far successfully organised nine besides sixteen national conferences. These events are occasions at which renowned alternative medical practitioners from all over the world assemble under one roof interacting with each other, providing insights and information on the developments and trends in the alternative medical field in their native lands, sharing their knowledge and experience and collectively planning a future course of action to bring alternative and natural therapies into the medical mainstream. The conferences provide an ideal opportunity to students and budding practitioners of alternative medicines to interact with these stalwarts and expand their horizons.
The Board's past nine international conferences were attended by eminent practitioners, doctors and health workers from the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Japan, France, Spain, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Mexico, Peru, the Philippines, South Korea, Malaysia, Indonesia, Egypt, Iran, Qatar, Bahrain, UAE, Saudi Arabia besides neighbouring nations such as Bangladesh and Nepal.

Besides the many luminaries from the alternative medical field, the Board's conferences have come to the attention of international figures and dignitaries from around the world who have come forward in support and praise of these events. Prominent amongst those who have conveyed their blessings and good wishes is the WHO, UNICEF, UNESCO, the Commonwealth Secretariat and international personalities such as Mother Teresa, the Dalai Lama, Queen Elizabeth and UN Secretary-Generals. The importance and relevance of these occasions is amply reflected by the presence and participation in these events by Mother Teresa, union and state level ministers, chief justices, judges and diplomats. His Excellency Shri Kidar Nath Sahani, the Governor of the state of Sikkim, inaugurated the Board's 9th International Congress on Alternative Medicines held on 2nd and 3rd December 2001 at Calcutta which was also attended by Mr. Justice A. K. Mathur, the Chief Justice of the High Court at Calcutta, who graced the event as Chief Guest.
